eu new sanctions against russiaThe EU depending on the development of the situation in Ukraine is ready to consider further sanctions against Russia.

This is referred to in the conclusions on Ukraine according to the results of the extraordinary meeting of the Council of EU Foreign Ministers.

The Council of Ministers notes that the reason for imposing restrictive measures against the Russian Federation shall remain in force.

“The Council recall that the restrictive measures adopted by the EU directly linked to the Russian Federation in violation of international law and illegal annexation of the Crimea and the destabilization of the situation in Ukraine”, notes in statement.

“The Council together with the Commission and High representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy participates in the monitoring and evaluation of these activities is ready to consider further actions depending on the situation”, reported in the conclusions.

The Council of Ministers also expressed disappointment with the Russian embargo on import of certain agricultural products produced in EU.

As noted in the conclusions, to assess the impact of these actions at the beginning of September there will be an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers of the EU agriculture and fisheries.

The Council also expressed the hope that other countries will refrain from activities that are aimed at the development of new trading opportunities that have arisen from the introduction of the Russian embargo.

In addition, according to conclusions, the recent economic sanctions of Russia towards Ukraine are unjustified and such that “undermine the tripartite negotiation process regarding the impact of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU”.

The Council warned Russia from the use of such measures in relation to other Eastern partnership countries, which ratified the SA, and called on the European Commission to support these states if necessary.
